Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to play Discodle. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We haven't had an independent accessibility audit yet, so we're checking it ourselves as we go.
What we've done
- You can play with a keyboard: type the letters, use the arrow keys to move between steps, Backspace to delete and Enter to check.
- The chain and each step have labels for screen readers, and messages (such as whether a word fits) are read out.
- Every move has a name and an icon as well as a colour, so colour is never the only clue.
- If you've asked your device to reduce motion, the game turns its animations off.
- Buttons and keys are at least 44 pixels across, text is never smaller than 11 pixels, and the page doesn't scroll sideways on a phone.
- The clock pauses whenever you leave the page, and there's no time limit to finish.
What may still be hard
- The puzzles depend on spelling, word meanings and how words sound, which may be harder with some disabilities, such as dyslexia or hearing loss.
- The worked example and some celebrations are animated; they follow your device's reduce-motion setting.
Tell us
If something makes Discodle hard to use for you, please email hello@discodle.com and tell us what you were trying to do and on what device. We'll get back to you and do our best to fix it.
